FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What counselling services do you offer?

At the heart of our practice is a deep commitment to your unique journey, which is why we offer flexible, personalised counselling services designed to meet you exactly where you are.  Counselling options include in-person & telehealth appointments.

Our compassionate approach addresses anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, grief, stress, and developmental challenges.

We see you as the expert of your own life, and our role is to walk alongside you, offering a supportive, non-judgmental space.

How long does a typical counselling session last?

Our sessions are designed to provide you with the time and space you need to explore your thoughts and feelings. Our standard 50-minute sessions allow for meaningful conversation while maintaining a focused, productive approach.

Understanding that some journeys require more time, we also offer extended 90-minute sessions. We'll work together to determine the most supportive session length for your unique needs.

What will our first session be like?

Taking the first step towards counselling is courageous. Our initial session creates a warm, safe space to share your challenges and hopes.

We'll listen with empathy, craft a personalised roadmap, and ensure you feel supported from the moment we meet. No pressure, just collaborative understanding. Our primary aim is for you to feel safe, respected, and supported from the moment we meet.

Is counselling covered by Medicare?

While counselling isn't currently covered by Medicare, we see this as an opportunity for more personalised care. Medicare's limitations often mean restricted session numbers and potential wait times. Our approach offers you complete flexibility and immediate access to care that's tailored precisely to your needs.

Paying out-of-pocket doesn't mean higher costs – in fact, many clients find our approach more affordable. You gain the freedom to choose a counsellor who truly resonates with you, access a broader range of therapeutic options, and begin your healing journey without barriers.

What is the difference between a

psychologist and a counsellor/psychotherapist?

While both psychologists and counsellors are dedicated to supporting mental health, our approach offers a uniquely personal touch. Psychologists often focus on diagnostic approaches and specific therapeutic interventions, whereas our counselling practice centers on you as a whole person.

We collaborate to develop practical strategies for everyday challenges or explore deeper emotional landscapes. Our goal is supporting your whole emotional wellness, not just treating symptoms.

Do I need a referral to see a counsellor?

Absolutely not! Your path to support is direct and simple. Reaching out is as easy as picking up the phone, sending an email, or booking online.

We're just a call away at 03 8203 5151, ready to take that first step with you whenever you're ready.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

Counselling isn't just for moments of crisis – it's for anyone seeking personal growth, self-understanding, or support through life's challenges.

If you're feeling stuck, experiencing persistent emotions that feel overwhelming, or simply want to develop better coping strategies, counselling can be beneficial. Everyone's mental health journey is unique, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

How often will I need to attend counselling?

There's no one-size-fits-all approach. The frequency of sessions depends entirely on your individual needs, goals, and circumstances.

Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, while others might find fortnightly or monthly check-ins more suitable. We'll work together to create a schedule that feels supportive and manageable for you, regularly reviewing and adjusting as your needs change.

What can I expect during my first session?

There’s no need to prepare extensively—just come as you are with an open mind and a willingness to explore. If it helps, you might like to reflect on:

  • What led you to seek counselling

  • The main areas where you’re seeking support

  • Any goals or things you’d like to focus on during our sessions

Above all, remember there’s no pressure. We’ll work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way.
